Ryan J. Murphy is a member of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey bars. His practice is concentrated in the areas of complex construction defect litigation, workers’ compensation, automobile negligence, premises liability, and general liability.
While at Rutgers Law School, he was a member of the Rutgers Journal of Law and Religion, serving as the Lead Notes Editor. He also was a student attorney in the Rutgers Civil Practice Clinic, providing free legal assistance to individuals in the local community across a broad range of civil litigation matters. While in pursuit of his law degree, he served as a summer law clerk in Federal Court to the Honorable Jean K. FitzSimon (Ret.) in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He followed that experience by working as a law clerk at a regional Philadelphia law firm where he specialized in bankruptcy matters representing the interests of creditors. During law school, Ryan worked at Sweeney & Sheehan as a summer associate and law clerk.
Upon graduating law school, he served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Michael J. Donohue, J.S.C. (Ret.), in the Criminal Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Cape May County. Ryan is certified by the State of New Jersey as a mediator for small claims, law division, and landlord tenant matters.
While at Ursinus College, Ryan was a four-year member of the Men’s Varsity soccer team as a goalkeeper. He served on the team’s leadership council and earned multiple Centennial Conference awards during his collegiate playing career in one of the most competitive conferences in the nation.
Ryan is an active member in both the South Jersey Claims Association and Central Jersey Claims Association, which are organizations dedicated to promoting Education, Ethical Claims Practices, and Fellowship among insurance professionals. He has taught for-credit continuing education classes to insurance professionals and lawyers, as well as provided legal updates at monthly meetings for the South Jersey Claims Association.

Sweeney & Sheehan mourns the loss of its founder, Donald J.P. Sweeney, Esquire, on June 8, 2021. He was a proud graduate of St. Athanasius Catholic School, St. Joseph's Preparatory School, Villanova University and Temple Law School. He practiced law for nearly 40 years, and founded Sweeney & Sheehan in 1971. He was active litigator and he specialized in catastrophic product liability cases. Don supported his children's activities, serving as soccer coach at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church and President of the CYO. He was a lector for nearly 48 years and a member of the choir. He was an active supporter of St. Joseph's Prep and was awarded the Alumnus of the Year Award in 1999 and the Rev. Charles Schnorr, SJ '37 Service Award in 2005. He retired from the practice of law in 2004.
Don is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann, his children, Shannon, Patrick, Daniel, Gerard and Suzanne, and ten grandchildren.
